The APMDA vehemently denies all the charges levelled against the car dealers. Can these officials and sources, who are involved in this campaign, can explain why the car dealers were invited by the CBR chairman if they are actually all that bad?
No official can deny that the overseas Pakistanis, who wish to bring the car under the personal baggage and gift scheme are as good as those overseas Pakistanis who have been allowed to bring the 5 years old 'car under the TR scheme' and that also with the condition of at least one year old registration in the country of residence, which is simply ridiculous.
These sources and officials are well aware that the cars used in the Middle East and most of other countries are left-hand drive and no overseas Pakistani can afford to buy and keep a right-hand drive car for one year.
We standby to our assertion to the CBR chairman that the CGO must be amended to allow 5 years old cars under personal baggage/gift/TR scheme without any condition.
We would also like to make it expressly clear that we have no objection against the payment of duty in US dollars.
In fact, this was the idea of the APMDA to collect duty in US dollars which has now been picked for implementation.-PR
